Friday May 24, 2024
In this exclusive podcast Greg (Vapour Trail) names his Top 10 Mandelbrot Set Songs. Some are original demos, some are live recordings, some are from their EP's.
The Mandelbrot Set were an indie/powerpop band from Adelaide, South Australia, who rose to prominence during the "shoegaze" era of the early 1990s.
The band formed in 1990 when school friends Tim Mortimer (guitar/vocals) and Brian Pyper (guitar) met Adam McBeath (ex-Artisans), a guitarist who agreed to join on bass. With the addition of drummer Michael Bajer, plus occasional violinist Christie Scardigno, the line-up was settled.
Track-list:
1. Punter Startler2. Photograph (REM Song)3. Philip Glass meets Ride - Live Bootleg4. Lush5. Joy in Despair (demo)6. Sometimes7. Nothing You Need8. Joy in Despair (demo)9. More Than Happy (first demo 1990)10. Collider

Greg Peters came up with the theme of playing music from four decades, three, then two decades ago. That's a whole lot of music from those years to choose from. I've got over an hour of tunes from each of those years waiting for another show with this theme.
Meagan and Bret and Greg had a great time chatting, catching up with our listeners and each other and entertaining you all with our looks back at these years.
Vapour Trail Live is originally heard on the second and fourth Fridays at 6pm Pacific on www.Eardrumbuzz.net

Vapour Trail Live: Festivals
Sunday May 12, 2024
Sunday May 12, 2024
Summer in the Northern Hemisphere is right around the corner and it's time to get ready for festivals and live shows. Sure, it's getting cooler in the Southern Hemisphere (sorry Greg!) but we've all enjoyed outdoor festivals and wish we could go to a few more. I managed to pick all live songs, though they weren't from the actual shows but Meagan found a recording or two from the festival she saw the band at and Greg played some bands he wishes to have seen live and at festivals.
So sit back, relax and enjoy the tunes we picked this time around. No worries of cost, travel, traffic, hotels, talking audience members, sightlines, overpriced food or sunburn, just 3+ hours of live tunes and reminiscing!

Echodrone bassist Brandon Dudley has lots of great covers for this episode of Souvlaki Bass Station. With Echodrone they released the Mixtape For Ducky EP and have done a few other covers for various compilations. So Brandon knows his way around a classic song. I love covers when the covering bands put their own personalities into the originals. Just look at that setlist!
You can hear the show on the first and third Sundays every month on Eardrum Buzz Radio at 1pm & 9pm Pacific at www.eardrumbuzz.net
