EDBZ Live: Celebrating Geordie Walker of Killing Joke (11.29.23)

On Sunday, November 26th of 2023 guitarist Kevin "Geordie" Walker passed away after having a stroke on the previous Friday. He was 64. 

Geordie is a founding member of Killing Joke along with Jaz Coleman and has been with them their whole run since the late 1970's. His hollow-bodied guitar and melding of melodic and powerful playing defined Post-Punk in the 80's as much as it did Hard Rock and Metal through the years. 

Nirvana famously took the main riff from Killing Joke's iconic song Eighties and KJ took notice. Since then former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters' frontman Dave Grohl contributed drums to the whole of Killing Joke's second Self-Titled album in 2003 and even had Jaz onstage with Foo Fighters for a live version of Requiem in Prague in 2017. 

Geordie also appeared with two supergroups: Murder, Inc. and Damage Manual as well as recorded songs with Jaz and Peter Hook as K-93, with three songs recovered of that trio's output. 

Geordie's style and performances inspired guitarists and music fans for decades and I felt that having an outlet like Eardrum Buzz Radio, I just had to celebrate the life and talent of Geordie and Killing Joke. We did it live with Meagan Masingill and managed to play four hours of KJ, side-projects and a few choice covers. We had a few requests too, all awesome.
